We have returned from our weeklong journey out west to Kansas & Missouri. After months of talking with the people of First Christian Church in Beloit, KS, we finally got to meet them and see their town. We arrived on Friday afternoon and hit the ground running with the busy itinerary they set up for us. Dave handled everything like a pro. He had late night video games with the high school boys and early morning interviews with the Elder board & Search Committee. In between we had meals at peoples' homes. Then Dave was back to work teaching junior high Sunday school and senior high youth group, which can be a tough thing to do when you're candidating for a position and you just met all the kids for the first time. I have to say that the kids were very friendly and fun, as were all of the adults we met. We got a tour of the area from a wonderful couple, Phil & Kristi, and they took us to the only Mexican restaurant in town (which surprisingly passed my test for quality tasty cheesy goodness!) for lunch. The weather was cold (me likey!) and the house we stayed in (shown above, with part of the church building in the background) was cozy & comfortable. Everything is five minutes from everything else. And the cherry on top is the Beloit Sonic, pictured above, where we stopped 3 or 4 times for sodas & snacks while we were in town. Yep, it's a small town, and it will be a major change for us, but the church is fantastic and it feels like a great fit. Dave is completely psyched. We will keep you posted. We hope to find out soon if they plan to invite us out permanently. Meanwhile, we are moving out of our current home in less than a week.
Since we're soon homeless with a little time to kill, we decided to head down to Charlotte, NC for the National Youth Workers' Convention (this will be our 4th year to attend), which begins the day after we close on the sale of our home. God's timing is a unique thing, no? We are happy for the opportunity to worship Him with awesome musicians like David Crowder, Chris Tomlin, & Jars of Clay. We'll also get to enjoy wonderful seminars and general sessions and quality comedians and time for Dave to get all prepped up for his new job (assuming it's ours).
More to come!
